Open an .mdb or .accdb file without Access
Drop your Access database here. You will see all its tables, search them and download each one as CSV to open in Excel. It works with Access 97 up to current versions, with nothing to install and without the file leaving your computer.
The database opens in your browser. It is not uploaded to any server and never leaves your computer.
What it does
Lists the tables
It shows every table in the database with its record count and columns.
Browse and search the data
Page through the records of each table and search for text across all columns.
Exports to CSV
Download each table as CSV, with accents that work in Excel and the separator you prefer.
Access 97 to 2019
Reads .mdb files (Jet engine, Access 97 to 2003) and .accdb files (ACE engine, Access 2007 onwards).
No Access, no installs
You do not need Microsoft Access, the Access Runtime or ODBC drivers.
Read only
It never modifies the file. A safe way to rescue the data before migrating it.
How it works
1. Make a copy
Work on a copy of the file, with all users out of the application.
2. Drop the file
Pick the .mdb or .accdb. If it is a split application, the data is usually in the "back-end" file.
3. Review the tables
Choose a table, review its data and search for what you need.
4. Download the CSV
Export the tables you want to open them in Excel or load them into a current database.
This is a read-only viewer: it shows tables and data, not forms, reports, queries or VBA code. Encrypted databases need their password. Use it only with databases you own or have the right to access.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open an .mdb or .accdb without Access?
Yes. This tool reads the file directly in your browser: you do not need Access, the Access Runtime or drivers. You can see the tables and export them to CSV.
Is my database uploaded anywhere?
No. The file opens in your browser with JavaScript and is not sent to any server, so you can use it with internal company data.
Which Access versions does it open?
.mdb files from Access 97, 2000, XP and 2003, and .accdb files from Access 2007 onwards (2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and Microsoft 365).
Can I see forms, reports or VBA code?
No: the viewer shows the tables and their data. Forms, reports, queries and macros are analysed separately when the application is migrated.
How do I get the data into Excel?
Choose the table and press "Download CSV". The file is generated as UTF-8 with the marker Excel needs to keep accents intact.
What if I want to migrate the whole Access application?
The data is the first step. We can recover the business rules from forms, queries and macros and move everything to a current web application. Start with a free first consultation.
